November 23, 2000

As this newsletter makes its way across the globe, our U.S. readers are most likely preparing their annual Thanksgiving feasts.

It can be a stressful time, so I hope you take a few moments to yourself and enjoy these knitterly wanderings.

I'll be doing some knitterly wanderings of my own as I spend the holiday with family in the Boston area. While everybody else sleeps off their turkey on Friday, I plan to sneak out and explore the yarn shops.

Striking Gold in Alaska

This week marks the end of our alpaca explorations. We've learned about the animals, we've visited breeders, and we've looked at three alpaca yarns: Classic Elite Inca Alpaca, Filatura di Crosa Muschio, and Jaeger Alpaca. I have one more to add to the list this week: a wild boucle blend called GGH Alaska.

New Designers on the Block

I also look at "Little Badger Knitwear," the first book of patterns from knitwear duo Ros Badger and Elaine Scott. The designs are cute and trendy -- think Debbie Bliss/BabyGap -- yet totally possible for the novice beginner.

Update from Rowan

And finally, we received a note from Nicola Earnshaw at Rowan fully explaining why they're discontinuing their Designer DK line and what they plan to do next. I've posted it for your reading pleasure.

Coming Next Week

In next week's newsletter I'll announce the winner of our $25 gift certificate to Vancouver's Knitwear Architects.

I'll also profile a truly succulent angora blend from Northwest Angora, and explain how you can sponsor a sheep.

Until then, enjoy the holidays!

Sincerely,
