Knitter's Review
February 3, 2011
a cowl for a tree

Howling winds and heavy snow mean cowl weather—and we've had quite a lot of it lately. The ideal cowl is soft, warm, and dense enough to let you bury your nose in it as you slip and slide your way down the middle of what should be a two-lane street, the sidewalks still impassible beneath a foot of fresh snow.

The ideal cowl yarn is equally soft, warm, and dense. I've found just the ticket, a plush cable-spun blend of alpaca and Merino that knits up at a speedy 4 stitches per inch. Let's see what Blue Sky Alpacas Worsted Hand Dyes does on the needles.

This Weekend in Michigan
On Saturday, February 5th, the fifth-annual Knit Michigan takes place in Bloomfield Hills. The volunteer-led event is dedicated to raising funds for Michigan cancer organizations through a marketplace, a silent auction, and workshops. Perfect for the heart of winter.

In the Forum: Art or Craft?
Donna brought up a great question. Do you define knitting as an art or a craft, or as something else entirely? Share your perspective.
