Knitter's Review
April 21, 2011
shell and cotton

Knitting is a flexible and forgiving medium. In general, we use it to make functional, wearable objects like socks and hats and sweaters.

But knitting is also quite willing to accompany us on more unusual adventures, whether it's to make a bright red Ferrari, translucent human lung, or a patchwork cozy for a city bus.

As you'll discover in Lela Nargi's new book, Astounding Knits, quite a few people around the world are having a blast pushing knitting to its limits.

Big KR Retreat News
I'm excited to announce that the Knitter's Review Retreat is hitching its wagons and hitting the road again. Our destination is the Inn on the Lake in Canandaigua, New York. The 10th-annual gathering takes place November 18-20. I have quite the shindig planned. Details and registration information will be posted here in June.

This Weekend
The very first NorthEast Indiana Fiber Festival gets underway at the Noble County Fairgrounds in Kendallville, Indiana. Meanwhile, in Missouri the Lake Area Fiber Arts Festival takes place at the Harper Chapel United Methodist Church in Osage Beach. And in the Battenkill Valley of New York's Washington County, tank up your car for the 19th annual Washington County Fiber Tour.

In the Forum: A New SSK
We're talking about the slanted decrease created by slipping two stitches, one at a time, and then knitting them together through their back loops—or, as we commonly call it, the SSK. Is there an easier way?
