The latest knitting news usually comes from TNNA, the semiannual trade show taking place in Phoenix this weekend.

But last weekend at Vogue Knitting Live in New York we heard big news from Alice Starmore, and we got previews from Ysolda Teague, Addi, and the Buffalo Wool Co. I have the full scoop, with pictures.

An Icelandic Adventure
Like many of you, I learned to knit from my grandma. She loved wool, and she was particularly captivated by Icelandic Lopi. During her many trips to Iceland she brought back oodles of Lopi and knit traditional sweaters for us all, always wearing a Lopi cardigan of her own. Between her sweaters and my grandfather's pictures of the stunning landscape, Iceland has always held a near-mythical place in my heart.

When Knitting Iceland approached me about participating in a tour, I couldn't jump fast enough. The agenda has me giddy. We'll have workshops about yarn and wool and Lopi sweater design. We'll head up into the mountains to watch the Icelandic sheep being herded and sorted. And because Ragga of Knitting Iceland knows I love to bake, she has also organized a talk and tasting with Iceland's top chocolate expert. It's a trip of a lifetime, and I hope you'll join me.

This Weekend in Mississippi
The town of Oxford, Mississippi, hosts the second-annual Fiber Arts Festival at the Powerhouse this Friday through Sunday. In addition to a small marketplace, the event will also feature demonstrations and workshops on such varied subjects as Kumihimo braiding, finger knitting, felting, and making handwoven jewelry.
