Sometimes nothing beats the basics.

Sheepish for Shetland

Shetland wool may lack the flash and flare of today's "art" yarns, but it has clothed royalty and sustained a population for more than 400 years.

This month we take a deeper look at the Shetland Islands, a series of rugged outcroppings located halfway between Scotland and Norway. We examine the fiber, yarns, and techniques of Shetland knitting, as well as the Fair Isle designs for which the region is famous.

We begin with a closer look at a mainstay Shetland yarn from Jamieson's.
