Knitter's Review

Cashmere Queen in my trusty mug

Washing your swatches is the knitter's equivalent of finishing a book to know how the story ends. Sure, you can guess, or a friend can spoil it for you. But with some yarns, you have to see it for yourself to believe it.

While I was in Wisconsin last weekend I came across one such yarn. It's an interesting felted concoction from Germany that blends Merino, cashmere, and silk into something called Cashmere Queen. The difference from skein to washed fabric is striking and, for some people, unbelievable.

This Weekend in Washington
The Madrona Fiber Arts Winter Retreat takes place this weekend from Thursday to Sunday at the Hotel Murano in Tacoma, Washington. While registration for workshops is now closed, you can still pick up on the Madrona vibe by attending evening events led by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, Deborah Robson, and Sarah Swett. Don't miss the marketplace, which is open and free to the public all four days of the retreat.

In the Forums: Favorite Stitch?
Pam is perfectly capable of many different stitches, yet when it came to picking her favorite, she voted for good old-fashioned garter-stitch. She loves the plush, soft squishiness of it. What's your favorite stitch?
