Knitter's Review
December 6, 2012
a mighty bale

I have big news that I've been eager to share with you. After 12 years of swatching, testing, flogging, thrashing, fondling, coveting, and generally seeking the meaning of yarn, I’m finally ready to try making my own. I'm taking the leap from yarn reviewer to yarn maker.

On January 1, 2013, I'm embarking on a grand and totally unique yarn adventure with one very big bale of extremely special wool, and I want you to come with me.

Behind the Bale
That very big bale of extremely special wool? It weighs a whopping 676 pounds, and it comes from Eugene Wyatt's New York flock of purebred Saxon Merino sheep. He doesn't sell his fiber to just anyone, usually he keeps it for his own yarn. Read more about Eugene, his sheep, and his own yarn.

This Weekend Down South
Hot Springs, Arkansas, hosts the Arkansas Fiberarts Extravaganza this weekend. Head to the Hot Springs Convention Center for workshops, a vendor hall, and a keynote address by special guests Ann Shayne and Kay Gardiner of Mason-Dixon Knitting.

In the Forums: Twiddling Thrums?
Donna is working with a thrummed-mitten pattern that has her do the thrums in a totally different way. How do you do yours? (And if you've never heard of thrums, this thread offers a great explanation.)

A final note: To make time for my grand yarn adventure, and because I haven't yet figured out how to clone myself, Knitter's Review will go to a semimonthly publishing cycle in 2013.

As always, I thank you for your readership and your support.

Talk to you next week!
