Knitter's Review

An undyed skein of Lot 3 from the Great White Bale

While we can't travel back in time, undo our mistakes, and start over from scratch, we can unravel our failed projects, freshen up the yarn, and give it a whole new lease on life. This week we look at the time-honored tradition of unraveling and recycling yarn—including a clever technique involving a strategically positioned swift, tea kettle, and ball winder.

Coming Up
This is a big weekend for yarn lovers across North America. The Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival takes place at the Clackamas County Fairgrounds in Canby, Oregon; the Shenandoah Valley Fiber Festival will be in Berryville, Virginia; the Vermont Sheep and Wool Festival is in Tunbridge; the Heart of New Mexico Fiber Gathering is in Moriarty; and in picturesque St. Andrews-by-the-Sea in New Brunswick, Canada, the KnitEast Atlantic Fibre Fest takes place at the Fairmont Algonquin.

In a little less than two weeks, I hit the road for my Yarn Whisperer book tour. Are you near Seattle, San Francisco, Portland (Oregon), Pasadena, Denver, Minneapolis, Chicago, Nashville, Rhinebeck, Portland (Maine), or Toronto? If so, please join me! Dates and details here.

In the Forums: When Life Tries to Frog You
Anna had almost finished a lovely pair of socks, tucked them away in a plastic bag, and then—horrors!—later discovered they'd been partially eaten by mice. She recently ripped what was salvageable and reknit the first sock, determined not to let mere mice defeat her. How about you? Leap any hurdles lately?
