Knitter's Review
April 10, 2014
mitered square in hand-dyed yarn

When I asked you about mitered squares two weeks ago, your answers—the majority being positive—were a pleasant surprise.

Mitered squares give the same keen satisfaction as the thumb gusset or the artfully turned heel. Previously straight lines suddenly pitch upwards or down to a satisfyingly pointed V. What we see on our needles becomes, like magic, another shape entirely when we bind off.

Conceived as a Kickstarter project, Jill Bigelow-Suttell and Jane Bigelow's book, A Knitter's Gallery of Mitered Squares, is finally ready to take its rightful place on your bookshelves. It's the perfect ingredient to spice up your knitting mojo.

Kickstarter Campaign
Another Kickstarter project you'll want to know about is Felicity Ford's KNITSONIK Stranded Colourwork Sourcebook. Her project seeks to show us how to "transform everyday things into extraordinary stranded colourwork." Based on the proposal and photographs, she is set to succeed where many have tried and failed.

Coming Up
Stitches South takes place from April 10-13 at the Georgia International Convention Center in Atlanta. A peek at the schedule tells me several excellent classes still have a few spots open, not including the marketplace and special events. Meanwhile, the Minnesota Yarn Shop Hop unfolds across the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, while Rhode Island also opens its doors for the Great Rhody Yarn Crawl. Next weekend? Head to Hood River, Oregon, for the fourth-annual Columbia Gorge Fiber Festival. These and hundreds more can be found at our calendar of upcoming events.

Online Inspiration
Mitered squares don't hold the patent on inspiration. Have you played with brioche knitting recently? Expert Nancy Marchant has a fantastic Craftsy class on the basics of brioche. You'll learn everything you need to know about how to make this spongy, plush fabric.

Still baffled by yarn? My own Craftsy class will help, I promise.

As always, I thank you for letting me be a part of your knitting life.

We'll talk again on April 24th!
