Knitter's Review

Kristine Vejar holds a madder root

Kristine Vejar has a new book coming out at the beginning of October, called The Modern Natural Dyer. Painstakingly researched, well-written, and gorgeously photographed, the book explores the easiest and most accessible kinds of natural dyeing for the home. If you were to own one book on natural dyeing, let it be this one.

I visited Kristine and her dye studio as part of my Great White Bale project in 2013. To introduce Kristine, her techniques, and natural dyeing in general, here's the story of that visit. It's packed with pictures and even a quick indigo video, so grab a cup of tea and make yourself comfortable.

This Weekend
We have two citywide yarn crawls this weekend, one in San Diego and the other in greater Boston. Meanwhile, Summerdale, Pennsylvania, welcomes the 30th-annual Knitter's Day Out and Irving, Texas, buzzes with knitters headed for Stitches Texas. Find details about these and many more events in our online calendar.

In the Forums: Awkward Bind-Offs
Jen is working on a pattern with a pretty bottom hem she can't figure out. The pattern tells her to bind off 2 stitches at each edge of the last 4 rows. The first 2 stitches were fine, but when she got to the end of the row, she was stumped about binding off those final 2 stitches. What should she do?
